The Study is Fable & Sow’s advanced conservatory course for actors ready to work with greater rigor, independence, and artistic responsibility.
This is an exacting room. Actors are expected to arrive prepared, work with specificity, take direction, make adjustments, rehearse seriously, and remain available to discovery when the work refuses to go as planned. The standard is high, but the goal is never perfection. The goal is a more responsive, imaginative, disciplined, and behaviorally alive actor.
The course centers sustained scene study, text analysis, rehearsal practice, character investigation, and the actor’s ability to remain alive inside demanding material. Actors are asked not simply to demonstrate choices, but to investigate the human condition through listening, circumstance, relationship, action, imagination, and an increasingly sophisticated understanding of themselves as storytellers.
The three-and-a-half-hour format allows the room to function as both a classroom and a rehearsal laboratory.
The Study, The Return, and The Agreement are part of Fable & Sow’s core curriculum and culminate in a live showcase at the end of the Fall 2026 semester. Performance date, time, and additional details will be announced during the semester. Participation in the showcase is considered part of the course experience.
Location Notice: Fable & Sow programming takes place across our network of partnering spaces in Beacon, Newburgh, Cold Spring, and Wallkill. Class locations are subject to change based on program and space needs, and any changes will always be communicated to registered students in advance.
Admission to The Study

Returning students will complete a brief check-in with faculty before enrollment. New students may also be asked to audition or participate in a short placement session.
The goal is simple: to ensure The Study is the right room for the actor and to assemble the cohort intentionally.

ACCESS & TUITION SUPPORT
An Ethical Pricing Clause for Standard Tuition
We want artists who feel called to the work to have a real opportunity to enter the room. We also understand that what is financially possible looks different for everyone, and that circumstance should not automatically be a barrier to meaningful training.
If Standard Tuition is beyond what feels possible for you right now, please reach out. When space and the sustainability of an offering allow, we are happy to explore reduced tuition and other ways of making participation more accessible.
There is no need to publicly explain or justify your circumstances. Simply begin the conversation with us, and we will meet it with respect, care, and honesty about what we can offer.
Access & Tuition Support is available for Standard Tuition registrations and is based on availability.
