ON THE HORIZON AT THE STUDIO

The work continues beyond a single class or semester.

Throughout the year, Fable & Sow will continue to introduce Studio Courses, intensives, workshops, guest artists, and limited run experiences, creating new ways for artists to enter the work, deepen their practice, and remain in relationship with the Studio.

ABOUT STUDIO COURSES
Alongside our Core Courses, Studio Courses offer shorter, specialized, and immersive ways into the work. These rotating offerings may include intensives, screen training, improvisation, devised work, guest artists, and experimental practices that expand upon the foundations of the Fable & Sow Studio.

Studio Courses are offered throughout the year and vary in length, level, enrollment, and format. Some may require prior experience or an audition for admission.

For Founding Members: Studio Credits may be applied toward eligible Studio Courses once registration for each offering is released. Credit eligibility will be clearly noted at the time of registration.

THE FALL SCREEN SERIES

The camera returns this fall.

The Frame, The Edit, and The Set return as part of our Fall Screen Series, alongside additional opportunities to investigate the craft, preparation, and demands of acting for the camera.

THE CAVE GAME™

The Study on steroids, with a twist. For the brave.

A curated, coached, and deeply immersive advanced acting experience built around endurance, ensemble, rehearsal pressure, emotional athleticism, responsiveness, and play.

One two hander play. Two teams. Actors tag one another in and out as the ensemble attempts to carry the world of the play all the way to the end.

Maximum 10 actors. Ideally 8.

Limited space. Admission by audition.

The experience may culminate in a public showing, with the agreement of the participating ensemble.

THE WOVEN ONES™

Inspired in part by Jon Lipsky’s Dreaming Together: Explore Your Dreams by Acting Them Out and Malidoma Patrice Somé’s Of Water and the Spirit.

A devised theatre and ethical leadership intensive exploring dreams, memory, image, ritual, imagination, community, and collective authorship.

Artists gather fragments from their dream lives and lived imaginations, then enter a collaborative process of building, shaping, leading, following, witnessing, and transforming that material into original live performance.

The Woven Ones™ asks not only what we make, but how we make it.

Who leads? Who follows? Who gets heard? How do we hold another artist’s offering with care? What changes when an individual story enters the hands of an ensemble?

Through movement, storytelling, improvisation, image, sound, and performance composition, private fragments begin to weave themselves into something shared.

This is not dream interpretation or therapy.

This is dream creation.

This is collective authorship.

The Collision Series: Baldwin & Basquiat

An acting intensive that asks the actor to see themselves differently, hold the craft less preciously, and discover just how beautiful it can be.

The Collision Series is an ongoing Fable & Sow studio experiment: what happens when actor training collides with other artistic forms?

Writers. Painters. Musicians. Thinkers. Movement. Image. Sound.

Each Collision brings another artistic language into the acting room, not to study it from a distance, but to discover what it can unlock in the actor.

Our first Collision brings together James Baldwin and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Across seven Saturdays, actors will be paired and given substantial scene work to live with throughout the intensive. We will build scenes, dismantle them, make choices, abandon them, and return, allowing the work to become less about protecting a performance and more about remaining alive within one.

James Baldwin’s Giovanni’s Room and selected writings will invite us into questions of desire, intimacy, identity, contradiction, and the distance between what a person says and what they know.

Jean-Michel Basquiat’s visual language will invite disruption: repetition, layering, rhythm, collision, erasure, and the possibility that crossing something out might actually allow us to see it more clearly.

And then we bring it all back to the scene.

Listening. Pursuit. Impulse. Behavior. Another actor. The courage to let the work change.

This is not a literature course or an art history course. It is an acting room, one where rigor and play can exist together, where the work can be taken apart and rebuilt, and where the actor is invited to encounter their craft, and perhaps themselves, differently.

Seven Saturdays. Sustained scene work. Baldwin. Basquiat.

IMPROV THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

Improvisational practice continues beyond the semester with additional courses, jams, intensives, and ensemble experiences throughout the year.

Artists will have ongoing opportunities to play, practice, take risks, build community, and remain in relationship with the improvisational work.

AND MORE IS GROWING

Guest artists, specialty intensives, returning Studio favorites, and new courses will continue to be announced throughout the year.

This is a living Studio.

There will always be another way into the work.
